PORTABLE SANITARY TOILETS

Portable Toilets
It is a lightweight, transportable, efficient and low cost toilets that are built with a simple construction method for the elimination of human waste considering the minimization of health hazards. It doesn’t require networks of plumbing apparatus and is very easy to build.

Raw Materials
Portable Toilet assembly is simple and few materials are needed. The main component of the toilet is its metal frame which gives it a rigid structure. Metal columns and beams are fastened with an assortment of screws, nails, bolts, and hinges.

The Manufacturing Process
The Toilet Units
·         Metal Rod (0.5” MS square rod and flat rod) for column, beam and frames.
·         Water Proof jacket for side covering (light-weight sheet plastic such as polyethylene could be a better option if a budget is enough).
·         Roofing Sheet (Corrugated Galvanized Iron Sheet).
·         Toilet pan (with lead will be better) which is to be connected to the pit with a connection pipe.
·         Wooden flak to fit the pan to the floor and covering for the pit (4’*4’).
·         Nut and Bolts.

Additional Features
·         Locally available materials can be used for the floor, roof and wall.

By-products/Waste
All the by-products/wastes are directly collected on the earthen pit which depth should not be more than 4’ considering the fact that Ground water level is situated at minimum of depth of 4’ from ground level. Chemicals should be used to sanitize the pit regularly. It should be covered properly and located away from water resources and the camp site.

The Future
It is a temporary sanitary latrine with the durability of about 4 years (Water Proof Jackets has a durability of 12-18 months so it is recommended to use light-weight sheet plastic for long term use). Frames can be unbolted and re-used again. It can be easily transported if needed.
